  Amateur UAV project

This aircraft will have a certain pre-determined route, the route that is to go a point A to a point B, C, D, etc., and return. The flight may be autonomous or assisted manually by the pilot. Data Link to include an air-ground communication.
For this the plane will have a navigation system that is a, GPS, a mini-computer that will manage all operations (altitude, the route, the motor, batteries, the level of fuel, etc.), as well as other inputs on board.

Date: 1995

Place: Faro e Loulé - Portugal

Our flying field .

These photos where taken with my trainer ( 1,7 mts ) using an automatic film camera located under the fuselage and the motor used was  an O.S 46SF ( 2 stroke ) .

Sea side photo .

Another sea side photo .

This flying filed is located at the Algarve high lands just 5 kms from Loulé .

The radio used was an Multiplex Commander MC-2010 with 5 channels for the necessary functions  .

These images are part of an aerial shooting by one of my models, on May 3, 2003, the national meeting of Aeromodelismo in St-Margarida, conducted by FPAm .
The equipment used for issuing image / navigation, is part of a project to build a model of piloting remote long-range (UAVs), in which I am working with the aim of terrestrial and marine patrol .

FPV - Remote Cockpit

With this new equipment, and finished in a pilot phase, the pilot and remote surveillance moves to distances much greater than allowed to human vision .
Telemetry (to be instaled) is made through a link UHF.
For easy transport, accommodation and use. Using the telemetry, may be monitored in real time the state of batteries, the level of fuel, rotation of the engine, engine temperature, humidity, air pressure, HUD, etc., are limited only to the size model .

Through a cable connecting the case, allows the viewing-by GPS navigation via PDA with the navigation software itself, the PDA has active matrix (anti-reflex system) which is quite useful in days of much light .

Still unidireccional a modem that receives information from aeromodel in flight, and transmits the geographic position, altitude, speed, heading, rate of rise-fall, time-date, real-time sampling is also a map. The image is visulized with OSD information and is recorded in digital format .

Save the file of a PDA travelled routes that can be viewed using the "Google Earth" or another and thus involve images-photos and the distances travelled in a local map to 2 or 3 dimensions .

Scanner SHF of 2.3 GHz with the 2499Ghz antenna ominidirecional (whip) or directional (Patch, parabolic or yagi), for long distances .
Departure of video / audio in analog form .
Registration and storage of image in digital or analog form .

Steering using remote glasses of ecrans TFT .

Cinema glasses .

This type of steering gives an 'almost' sensation of being inside the modelplane
and from this to another kind of feeling totally exciting, besides being considered
as the closest to reality .

Mini-camera transmitter that can be installed inside of small models .

Cameras in color CCD and Cmos economic and low consumption, the quality of image (320 lines) is not bad, but it is lower compared to    CCD (380, 470 and 540 lines). However are widely used in models of the micro air vehicles type (MAV) .

Several types of omnidirecionals and directional antennas are used as the desired application .
